Staff Software Engineer, Retirement

Gusto is seeking an engineer to build and own systems for 401(k) management, helping small businesses navigate complex financial regulations. The role involves hands-on full stack development, shipping production code, and evolving system architecture. Team members work closely with product, compliance, and operations to deliver reliable software.

• 8+ years of software engineering experience building and shipping production products or platforms
• Strong experience with services and APIs
• Strong experience with message based systems such as Sidekiq, SQS, or NServiceBus
• Experience with GraphQL
• Good experience with large modern frontend applications like React
• Experience with Ruby on Rails or a comparable backend framework
• Comfortable owning systems end-to-end including production support and operational work
• Experience working closely with PMs and cross-functional partners to deliver scoped work
