Senior Staff Engineer, Expansion Experiences

Gusto is seeking a Senior Staff Software Engineer to join the Expansion Experiences team in San Francisco, CA. In this hybrid role, you will own outcomes across the full expansion funnel, shape technical architecture for recommendations and conversion journeys, and mentor engineers while driving business impact for over 500,000 small businesses.

• 10+ years of software development experience, including building and shipping full-stack, customer-facing products at scale
• Experience owning multi-quarter initiatives end to end, from early concept through measurable business impact
• Experience leveraging AI tools or systems to accelerate development, improve testing, and deliver new product capabilities
• Ability to build well-structured, maintainable, well-documented code and effectively communicate across engineering and business stakeholders
• Track record of mentoring engineers, delegating scoped work, and spotting technical or product opportunities proactively
