Senior Staff Software Engineer, Gusto Agent & Partner Experiences (API)

Gusto is seeking a Senior Staff Software Engineer for their Agent & Partner Experiences team to build and scale their platform. In this role, you will perform hands-on development in a complex Ruby on Rails codebase while bridging the gap between APIs and AI to empower developers and AI agents. You will work in a hybrid capacity based out of Denver, New York, or San Francisco.

• 12+ years of professional software development experience, including serving as a technical owner for organization-wide engineering initiatives
• Expertise in Ruby and Rails, with experience navigating massive applications and working across multiple codebases
• Proven background in designing and building platforms and public-facing APIs with a strong understanding of scale, reliability, and performance
• Experience mentoring and raising the technical bar across an entire organization
• Strong communication skills to align technical goals with business priorities and convey technical constraints to business leaders
