Staff Software Engineer, PEO Growth

Gusto is hiring a Staff Engineer for their PEO Growth team in San Francisco, CA. In this hybrid role, you will own the end-to-end PEO onboarding experience, set technical direction, and help integrate domains into a coherent journey for small businesses.

• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, including meaningful time owning customer-facing product surfaces in a large production codebase
• Strong full-stack range with comfort in mature server-side codebases and modern component-based frontends, such as Ruby on Rails and React/TypeScript
• Demonstrated AI fluency with day-to-day use of AI tooling in engineering work
• High ownership in ambiguity with the ability to take fuzzy business needs and shape them into buildable solutions
• Strong collaborator and influencer across team boundaries with a track record of leveling up nearby engineers
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
