Staff Software Engineer, Gusto Pro Integrations

Gusto is hiring a Staff Software Engineer to join the Gusto Pro Integrations team, building and owning third-party integrations for accounting firms. This hybrid role is available in Denver, CO, New York, NY, and San Francisco, CA, offering a chance to shape integration architecture across traditional APIs and emerging AI agent protocols like MCP.

• 8+ years of professional software development experience
• Experience owning multi-quarter projects end-to-end including scoping, planning, execution, stakeholder management, and launch
• Strong platform or application engineering background covering services, APIs, third-party integrations, data flows, and observability
• Comfort operating in an ambiguous, early-stage domain without a fully written roadmap
• Ruby on Rails experience strongly preferred, along with familiarity in OAuth and third-party API integrations
• An AI-native mindset with AI tools naturally embedded in daily engineering workflows
• Excellent communication skills to explain technical tradeoffs to both engineers and cross-functional partners
