Staff Software Engineer, Retirement AI

Gusto is seeking an engineer to build and ship production AI features for Gusto Retirement in Denver, San Francisco, or New York. The role focuses on designing language-model-powered experiences, making pragmatic architecture choices, and collaborating closely with product and design teams.

• 7+ years of software engineering experience building and shipping production products or platforms
• Hands-on experience implementing LLM-powered features such as RAG flows, agents, tool loops, or workflow automation with language models
• Strong engineering skills in services, APIs, and data flows with comfort coding the majority of the time
• Experience running or heavily contributing to a team's execution including sprints, Jira, scoping, and cross-functional coordination
• Experience with Ruby on Rails or a comparable language, and React or a comparable library

An execution-focused engineer with a bias to action who thrives in a small, senior team environment and has a strong background shipping production-level LLM and software products.
