Principal Product Manager, Payroll Platform

Gusto is hiring a Principal Product Manager for Payroll Platform to shape foundational APIs, connect payroll to ecosystem tools, and enable safe AI agents. Operating in a lean, mission-driven product team, you will drive the vision, strategy, and roadmap for payroll infrastructure across hybrid locations in Denver, New York, and San Francisco. You will leverage AI-native tools to prototype, build, and scale systems that make payroll effortless for small and medium businesses.

• 8+ years of direct Product Management experience
• Experience owning a platform, API, or developer product built on by other teams or partners, and driving its adoption
• Technical fluency in APIs, data models, and system design, including leading migrations to new APIs or interfaces
• Strong platform judgment for defining shared system boundaries, contracts, and irreversible architecture decisions
• Experience designing for trust in high-consequence systems with clear controls, auditability, and evidence-based automation expansion
• Hands-on experience building with LLMs or agents, including tool design, evaluations, prototyping, and shipping
• Experience leading multi-team work across engineering, design, and data, connecting platform metrics to customer outcomes
