About the role

Supabase is looking for a Software Development Kit Engineer specializing in Python to own how developers interact with the platform from Python across database, auth, storage, realtime, and edge functions. This library-authoring role involves working in the open with public repositories, issue trackers, and API design decisions that impact users for years. You will build and evolve both sync and async APIs, maintain typing experiences, and support a growing ecosystem of Python developers, backend services, data pipelines, notebooks, and AI agents.

Key requirements

  • Build and evolve the Python SDK across database, auth, storage, realtime, and functions with sync and async APIs
  • Own the typing experience by making the SDK fully typed and checker-friendly using generics, protocols, overloads, and TypedDict
  • Work in the open by triaging inbound issues, reviewing outside contributions, and keeping CI and release automation healthy
  • Support multiple Python versions, sync and async frameworks, workers, serverless environments, and notebooks
  • Build and maintain realtime features including long-lived websocket connections, reconnection, subscription, and presence semantics
  • Design in public by writing RFCs, migration guides, release notes, and documentation
  • Have authored or maintained a published library with a public API and external users
  • Be fluent in asyncio and experienced with packaging for libraries including pyproject.toml, wheels, and version support policies
